Who are we?
We are a coalition of organizations and concerned citizens. Our goal is to fight to make sure every vote is counted and that our elections are secure from hacking and computer error. We are active in all 50 states in the nation, because there is work to do everywhere. It is especially important to take action now, ahead of the 2024 elections.
1. 2019 Election Security Funding: Public Citizen played a pivotal role in the 2019 funding fight, resulting in $425 million in state election security grants. This funding not only helped replace paperless voting machines and prevent potential attacks in 2020 but also facilitated the rollout of expanded vote-by-mail and early voting programs during the pandemic. The achievement involved organizing the largest in-person mobilization for election security in the U.S., with 53 events in 27 states, driving thousands of calls ourselves and facilitating 100,000 partner calls in the U.S. Senate, and gaining support from influential organizations.
2. Ban on Wireless Connections: Public Citizen successfully generated over 50,000 public comments supporting a ban on wireless connections in U.S. voting system standards. This advocacy led to the inclusion of the ban in draft voting system standards passed by the U.S. Election Assistance Commission.
